2019. You Helped
Podari.Life has four ongoing programs:
First program provides doctors, hospitals and researchers with a current access to Western academic and clinical research - via relevant journals and database subscriptions paid by Podari.Life. The program also provides scientists in the field of cancer research with grants to participate in international conferences and exchanges. In 2019 Podari.Life had spent $20,670 on this program.
Second program covers rare and unregistered medications needed to cure children in Russian hospitals, primarily Dmitry Rogachev National Research Center of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology. The total expense for this Podari.Life program was $171,907.
Third program covers treatment and rehabilitation outside of Russian national health system - usually, in German or Israeli hospitals for Podari Zhizn wards. This program cost in 2019 was $26,253, in particular for unrelated bone-marrow search, and we expect to spend more of these searches next years.
Fourth program covers the expenses for IT that help to promote cancer awareness and reach more donors and stay in touch with patients parents and families.
In 2020 we aspire to continue our efforts to help Russian doctors in their fight with childhood cancer. Our programs continue to support academic and clinical development of medical personnel, however now our main causes are to provide Russia hospitals with so much needed medications, that are not available through Russian healthcare system.
Defitelio for Yegor - $19,182
Yegor is turning 6 y.o. in two weeks and he’s been fighting aplastic anemia for almost 3 years. It’s a disease in which the body fails to produce blood cells in sufficient numbers. The boy went through different treatments and received several bone-marrow transplants, but the disease comes back.
Right now Yegor feels better after the last transplant, but he needs to Defiltelio. As you might know Defitelio is the only treatment, that helps patients to fight veno-occlusive hepatic disease (VOD) occurred after bone marrow transplant. Podari.Life buys Defitelio for Russian hospitals, because it is not available for medical use in Russia and therefore cannot be provided by government-based medical insurance or even private insurance companies.
kidrolase for Yaroslava - $19,350
Yaroslava (7 years old) from Tula region needed Kidrolase, a treatment not registered in Russia. Again, not only the medication helped Yaroslava (she’ve already completed ALL treatment at Dima Rogachev Center and now is back at home), but doctors now have reserves for 14 other small patients who undergo chemotherapy in Moscow.
Bone Marrow Transplantation for Maxim: $26,402
Maxim, 3 years old, was diagnosed with chronic granulomatous disease—a rare immune disorder that can only be cured with a bone marrow transplant. While Russia has made progress in medical care, it still lacks a national registry of unrelated bone marrow donors. With your help, we covered the €23,000 cost for a donor search through the German Stefan-Morsch Foundation, along with essential medications for pre- and post-transplant care. Maxim is now feeling better and preparing to return home to Kazan.
Defitelio for Dima - $6,683.45
Dima, born in 2018, comes from Perm in northern Russia. He was diagnosed with a life-threatening immune system deficiency—even more severe than cancer. Like many cancer patients, Dima needed a bone marrow transplant, which he successfully received. Thanks to your support, we were able to purchase Defitelio—a critical, unregistered medication, helping make his recovery possible.
